Huckleberry Farms was established in the early nineties by Ivor and Delise Miller and Ivor's daughter Nadine. The first store in Epsom introduced a range of Natural and Organic products more comprehensive than ever seen before in New Zealand. Huckleberry set the benchmark for Natural foods retailing in New Zealand and the high standard still remains. Ivor and Delise wanted to provide an alternative to the faceless modern conventional supermarkets. They introduced a set of values to ensure that everything in a Huckleberry store would meet strict criteria for ingredients. "Artificial preservatives, colourings, flavourings and thickeners have no place on our shelves" says Ivor "those additives are there to add profit to the bottom line of food manufacturers and they certainly do not enhance your health. The past 40 years has seen massive growth in the use of those nasty chemicals, we wanted to sell food that was made the traditional way, before food scientists stepped-in."

Huckleberry Farms has always been recognised as the number one destination in Auckland for people with restricted diets and food allergies. Shoppers can be sure that any products available to suit restricted diets have been well checked to fit with the company’s purchasing criteria. For example many products have hit the market to cater to the growing gluten intolerant market and Huckleberry Farms has a huge and comprehensive range, but there are many products being produced for gluten intolerant people that contain nasty chemical cocktails in an attempt to reproduce the texture and taste of gluten, you won’t find those products at Huckleberry Farms.

Huckleberry Farms buyers will always look to purchase locally first and many of our 200+ suppliers are very small businesses who couldn’t dream of being able to supply regular supermarket chains. Huckleberry Farms has always felt that these quality products should be available to the consumer and all products are given fair consideration.

All Huckleberry stores have qualified Naturopaths on the staff who are there to give informed advice to customers at no charge. Customers can buy everything usually available at smaller health stores but with the added bonus of being able to receive dietary advice and even have herbal mixtures made especially for them.

Thousands of people each week do their family food shop at a Huckleberry's store rather than the conventional supermarkets. The stores have become a destination for anyone wishing to shop where the staff understand the issues and where everyone cares about food, health and the environment.
