FYI - Is Cheap Meat a Real Bargain?

What do You Value?

You can pay for those chicken pieces in a value pack along with the residues of persistent chemicals and pesticides.  Or you can pay a realistic price for organic meat that has none of those residual chemicals.  Here are 10 reasons we think organic meat is better value:

  1. Synthetic pesticides and fertilisers are not used on the animal feed or grazing land.  This particularly important because residues of persistent chemicals such as PCBs, dioxin and many pesticides end up concentrated in the animal fat.
  2. It is free of antibiotics, growth hormones, additives and genetically modified feed.
  3. Animals are raised in a healthy environment, supporting immunity and reducing the need for antibiotic treatment.
  4. Animals are raised on a natural diet free from animal products.
  5. Ethical treatment and free-ranging of animals.
  6. Less food miles when you choose organic meat that is sourced locally.
  7. A lighter carbon footprint.  Organic farms use less energy with careful ecological management, using natural systems to solve pest problems.
  8. Minimal impact on groundwater supply.
  9. Organic farms use manure as compost, whereas large, industrial farms can pollute the environment with effluent runoff.
  10. Supports smaller businesses and provides high quality meat that tastes the way it used to.
