Sunscreens in Our Stores

 

Natural sunscreens are very different from the plethora of mainstream sun protection products which use chemicals to prevent harmful UVA and UVB rays from penetrating the skin.  Natural sunscreens merely create a mineral barrier on the skin to minimise the impact of UV light penetration.

 

This year, with the withdrawal of Weleda and Dr Hauschka from the sun-protection market due to changes in European standards, our product lines have been limited.  We do have four very good quality brands to choose from:

Nom uses titanium dioxide as a sunscreen and has been a long term favourite in our stores for years.

Soelo is back this year, and we have secured a very good price on the 75gm tube.  Its active ingredient is zinc oxide.

Quintessentials natural sunscreen is NZ made with natural botanicals and uses zinc oxide as its active ingredient.

Green People from the UK uses titanium dioxide as its active ingredient, and is the only range with a dedicated children's product.

Remember the other important factors in sun protection:

• Antioxidant foods and supplements may reduce damage from over exposure to the sun.
• Cover up with clothing and wear a hat.
• Stay hydrated at all times in hot weather.
• Where possible, stay out of the sun between 11am and 4pm.
• If you do get burnt, apply aloe vera get, lavender oil, or plain cream (such as Huckleberry's basic cream) and cool down internally with lots of water.
