Winter Oils
During these cooler months our skin can often get
dry and our lips chapped. Including a little oil both in your diet and topically can help your skin to stay soft, moisturised and luscious. Using essential oils in a body mix also adds a beautiful aroma as well as having many therapeutic benefits. So what oils shall I eat? Tru2U have a range of flavoured flax seed oils that can be used in salad dressings or over cooked veges. For a winter bite try the chilli or garlic oil, great for dipping breads or dashing over an egg dish. On roast potatoes, the cracker pepper with a little Himalayan rock salt is delicious. Waihi Bush have a flax oil for everybody – pregnant woman, children, those who are venturing into the realms of healthy eating and the committed oil connoisseurs. Ask our in store naturopath which variety best suits your needs. Coconut oil is wonderful if you can get your hands on some. There is currently a worldwide demand, however we are endeavouring to ensure a regular organic supply. Pure Wellbeing has a new high quality raw coconut available. A little olive oil (not heated) is always a wonderful accompaniment to any meal and in particular the Mas Portell organic extra virgin and the Simunovich range are superb. If you like a rich flavoursome oil, a little dash of Grove organic extra virgin avocado oil goes a long way to enhancing a meal. And don’t forget the skin enhancing qualities of Udo’s 3,6,& 9 oil that is great on salads, in smoothies, or by the tablespoon or capsule. What oils shall I put on my body? Sweet almond oil is one of the best all over body moisturisers. It can be used on the face and is wonderful for baby massage. Add a little rose for a gentle fragrance that is very nurturing and loving. Sesame oil is an age old Ayurvedic tradition and is especially helpful this time of year as it is warming and grounding and is great for sore stiff joints. Warm in a bowl of hot water and give yourself a full body massage before a hot shower. Fragranced coconut oil (sandalwood, rose or frangipani) is a light, non-greasy affordable option that can be used after the bath or shower without staining your clothes. Essential oils such as jasmine, ylang ylang, orange and frankincense are all mood enhancers and are great additions to a hot bath, an oil burner or a body oil blend to pick up your mood, feel sensual and soothed. Loving your lips For your lips, a little bit of manuka honey is soothing and sweet and can help with the dry tight feeling that comes from sun, wind or cold exposure. For easier convenience use a balm with a sunscreen to keep your lips kissable. Dr Haushka, Weleda and Terra Tints all offer quality options. |
